We started the first step in our plans for finishing the basement today. Our first job was to take down the walls to the odd room down there that has been dubbed the "grow room". Why is it called the grow room? When the people that we bought the house from were looking to buy this house, this weird little room was the only room in the basement that had sheet rock, a door with a lock, but had no windows. They noticed when they looked at the house, that the window across from the room was all blacked out to make it dark...so they decided that the owners were trying to grow marijuana in it, hence the name, "grow room". We have no idea if it's even true, but that's what we have called the room since we moved in. Anyways, today we took down the sheet rock and such so that we can move forward with finishing the basement. After we were done with that, Christian and I went around with a piece of the kids sidewalk chalk and drew out our tentative plans for the basement. Our friend/home teacher is going to come and help us figure out how much material we are going to need to get it all framed, wired, insulated and sheet rocked so that when we go to Billing in a couple of weeks we can pick up our materials and get this thing started. I'm super excited about beginning. I'm no so sure that Christian shares my happiness, but it will be fun to get our project going!

The grow room before demolition.

The boys were super excited to get to put some holes in the wall before we tore it down.
|
Christian was able to push the wall board away from the studs so that it came down in one piece.

Landon even took a turn.

Sheet rock down.

We let the boys destroy a small piece that we were just going to toss. They were expecting to get to tear down the walls using hammers and such and were disappointed when we were able to take it down in large sheets.
