USA wrestling

For a couple of years, Travis has been asking if he could do USA wrestling. He has a passion for wrestling and is always wanting to wrestle at home and will wrestle any willing (and some times not willing) participants..aka his brothers. We've always told him no because we didn't want all of our Saturdays tied up and Christian was always afraid that if the boys started wrestling so young, they might get burnt out. One of Travis's best friends did it last year and kept trying to talk us into it. When it came time for sign-ups again this year, Travis asked if he could and his dad said yes. We worked out a deal with him that he could do USA wrestling, if he was willing to do some extra work to help "pay" for it. He was more than willing to any and all extra chores (and he's still been really good about doing extra things)!

He had his first tournament this weekend in Lovell and he loved every minute of it (although he was super nervous)! He went 3-1 with a 3rd place finish. It was so fun to watch him! Christian volunteered to help run the tables which allowed him to be down on the mat (they made it so that Travis would wrestle on the mat Christian was working), close to watch and to help coach. He has gotten permission to start helping during their practices and he's looking forward to getting back into the wrestling room again!
Christian had to be a ref whacker for a few matches until they got some kids rounded up to help. We gave his a hard time about always wanting to be able to hit little kids!

Travis loved getting to hang out with Christian at the table and be in on all the action.

One of the other mom's went around and took pictures of all the kids when they wrestled. I was thankful to get some better quality pictures than the ones off my phone!

February randoms

It's hard to believe that February is half way over. Here are a few things that we have been up to lately.

We celebrated Valentine's Day a little early with our annual family Valentine's dinner. We did it last Friday because it was the only night we had open before Valentine's Day. It was Travis's turn to help me out with the planning and executing and he was great help! We decided on shrimp as our appetizer, steak for the main dish with twice baked potatoes and asparagus to accompany it for dinner (the boys have been waiting for when they could have steak again). Travis made us some Shirley temples to drink and we enjoyed chocolate dipped strawberries, cream puffs and mini key lime pies for dessert. It was all delicious and it was so fun to do!

Love my little Valentines!

We received Carson's report card in the mail and he was excited to find out that he had made the honor roll. He had a great first semester and has been loving middle school! He's a great student and it shows! He is responsible and tries hard in everything he does! He also was rewarded with a bunch of mustang bucks for his academics and for not missing a day of school. They have a pretty cool school store that they can purchase Lovell Mustang sweatshirts, shirts, bags, hats and other fun things wit their bucks. It's a great reward system for middle schoolers. Good job, Carson!

It's been super cold around here...like below 0 every morning. Last Saturday, we didn't really have anything going on, so the boys talked us into braving the cold and heading to the golf course to sled. It was a whole 7 degrees, but was quite a pleasant day out in the sun. They sledded and snowboarded time after time and had a blast!

Carson finished up his 6th grade basketball season. They ended up losing their last game by a point...dang! He learned a lot this year and really enjoyed it! Now it will be on to track!

Pinewood derby

Tuesday night was our ward pinewood derby. Travis has known for quite a while that he wanted his car to look like our boat. We were able to get most of it done before we left on vacation. Christian put the wheels on Tuesday morning before he left for work and Travis and I got it weighted just right at the weigh-ins.

They did a round robin to start the derby and then put everyone into a single elimination bracket. Travis lost his first race of the bracket and was done. Overall, he had a great time and is already talking about what he's going to do next year for his car.

Christian got to be a finish line judge again this year.
