Landon has been sporting a nice black eye lately...One afternoon, after school, he and Travis were in the kitchen and Travis fake lunged at Landon and Landon ducked because he thought Travis was coming after him. On his way down in the duck, he smacked his face HARD on our island counter. He hit so hard that it instantly bruised and began swelling. That evening, we sent him to practice (he said he shed a tear(not really) everytime he had to put the catcher's mask back on during practice because it was sore) and to school the next day not thinking anything about his injury. A little after lunch the next day at school, I got a call from the school nurse saying Landon was showing symptoms of a concussion (he was tired, had a headache, was dizzy and she said his pupils were dialated)and suggested he go get checked out by a DR. We werent' able to get into a DR that day, but got in first thing the next morning. From what Landon told him and what I told him the school nurse had said, he said it sounded like he had a minor concussion and to take it easy over the weekend and if he felt better on Monday, he could go back to his regular activity. I felt like such a bad mom! Neither Christian or I thought about the possibility of a concussion...bad mom moment! I had even asked him when he went to school the after it happened if he wanted medicine and how he was feeling, and he said he was fine! HE tried to take it as easy as a 10 year old boy can over the weekend, and felt pretty good by Monday..just tired...but who knows if that was injury related or it's almost summer and we never get to bed at a decent time any more tired!
We tried out some cat fishing one night. It was a total last minute idea and really windy at our house, but we decided to try it out anyways. It ended up being a beautiful evening at the spot we went to with no wind, just a little cool once the sun went down. Had we known it was going to turn out to be such a nice night, we would have planned a little better and brought stuff to make a fire and maybe some blankets, but we honestly didn't think we would end up staying out very long. We ended up staying until 10. We didn't catch anything, but it was still fun to be out enjoying the nice night and hopefully we can try again another night!
There was a lunar eclipse one night and it was so cool to sit and watch it progress. The moon had a red tint to it when the eclipse was at full!
With the end of the school year so close, the 4th graders have been able to go on a couple of field trips. Their first one, they went up to Billings and went to Pompey's Pillar to explore around and learn about Lewis and Clark. They also got to visit several old homesteads in our area and learn about the people who once lived there.
