Middle School Track

Travis took part in track this year...after lots of coaxing! He wa pretty sure he didn't want to do it because he wasn't fast, but he quickly discovered that he could do pretty good in the shot and discuss and ended up really enjoying track season! He improved a great deal during the season. His PR in the shot was 20' 11.5" (done at the conference meet and good enough to place 7th) and in the discuss, his best was 55'9 (in Burlington). In his 2nd track meet, We convinced him to grunt really loud when he threw the shot and told him we would pay him $5. Grandma heard about this and said she would put in $5 too if he did. To our surprize, he did it and threw farther than he had before!! I was happy that he gave track a chance and ended up liking it. And actually, for their conference track meet (the big final one), each school could only enter their top 4 athletes for each event, and he ended up being the #4 spot for long jump after only having competed one time previously and only practicing a couple of times! Next year he will know better and maybe will actually get to practice long jump and do lots better. Who knew he could jump?
