Trailing Cows

Saturday, we helped Grandpa Asay trail his cows part of the way home to their winter pasture. They started Friday by bringing them from Dry Head to some corrals up by Barry's Landing. Saturday, Carson, Travis and Christian got up early (5:30) to help bring them from those corrals to some corrals by one of the bentonite plants in town. The day started out pretty chilly (22 degrees when they got to the corrals) and was an absolute beautiful day for November and the cows practically ran to the corrals themselves!
I loved how the sunshine seemed to be shining right on our cowboy group!

The cows on the rim of the canyon. I've never been back in here when they've trailed cows, so it was fun to see a picture.

It's a pretty dusty ride for a portion of the trip.

Carson and Mikayla (Jacob's girlfriend) rode borrowed horses that only really wanted to be right next to eachother.

Christian lead Landon for a while and kept falling farther behind the rest of the group so he ran to catch up with the truck and horse trailer and jumped on for a ride until they were able to catch up with the everybody else.

We stopped around noon to have some lunch. Grandma Asay made a couple different kids of soup and sandwiches for us all. It was Jacob's birthday, so we sang happy birthday and had brownies to celebrate!
Carson and Mikayla raced back when it was time to stop for lunch. Carson said he won just barely!

When Carson was riding back for lunch, he spotted what he thought might be a geode. After he ate, he and Grandpa Asay worked on trying to open it up in hopes it would have some crystals. Once they finally got it opened, they discovered it wasn't a geode and didn't have any crystals inside.

They finished right around 2 and we all headed our separate ways.
