8th grade promotion

At the end of 8th grade, the middle school usually holds a promotion ceremony for the 8th graders. This year, they did things different because of COVID. The ceremony was held outside in the parking lot of the middle school. Each student was assigned a parking spot that they could decorate, or they could just decorate their car. They had a nice little program that included a couple of speakers and then they read off the names of each of the students that would be going on to high school in the fall. It ended with the cars driving through the bus loop where the teachers were lined up to say goodbye to the students as they drove through. Once everyone was in the bus loop, they lit off a few fireworks and sent them on their way! It was short (about 20 minutes from start to finish) and a great way to send the kids off to high school.
It is crazy to think that Carson will be a high schooler next year!! He's so excited!
We didn't decorate our parking spot, but we did decorate the car for him.

This will definitely be the school year they never forget!

As each students name was read off over an FM station in the car, they handed the kids (with gloves and a face mask, of course)a certificate and a little bag of honey candy with a flag.

Hanging out the roof  to wave at the staff as we left.
The middle school staff lined up saying good bye.
All the cars lined up in the bus loop waiting for the fireworks to go off. We were the 3rd car from the front.
fireworks salute!

  1. It's so great to see clever ideas to replace those activities lost at this strange time!
