2016 Pup Wrestling

The boys just finished up 2 weeks of wrestling camp with a final tournament last night. Carson won both of his matches and Travis went 1 and 1. They (and us) were a little disappointed that they only got to wrestle two matches. They both wanted to do more!
Carson's first match.

Winner!

Travis watching a match with some of his buddies.

Travis's first match. He pinned the kid pretty quick.

Carson's second match. This kid was a lot more aggressive than his first match.

Travis's second match was against his friend, Matthew N., who is really good. Travis lost but did a really good job against him. It was fun to watch him wrestle someone that challenged him more.

Carson and Travis wrestled at the same time.

Each kid got a shirt and medal when they were finished wrestling.

Kane Caves

Because it was such a nice day yesterday (like 67 degrees!), we decided to take a walk and hike up to the Kane caves. We have been talking about doing it for a while now, but have never done it. Actually, we were going to do it last weekend while my sister was here, but it was super windy and Travis didn't feel real great. The boys each packed a backpack (Carson and Travis both got camel packs last year for their birthdays and have been dying to get to use them) with flash lights, shovels, sweatshirts and water. We got the parking site around 11:30 and followed the railroad tracks to the caves. We walked around a mile on the tracks and had fun finding all sorts of old railroad parts and Christian found a spot he would like to try fishing at.
On our way to the caves.

Checking out the river as we walked along.

Along our walk, we looked for a cement culvert that Christian knew had some of his uncle's names carved in it. We found it and were able to identify quite a few names of people we knew.

Once we got to the spot, we had to hike up the side of the mountain to get to the cave.
Travis and Carson climbing up to the cave.

At the top. The entrance to the cave is to the left of Landon.

The entrance to the cave. It's definitely a small opening that you pretty much have to lay on your back and slide into. Landon was pretty worried about going in, but once we got inside, he LOVED it!

As your entering the cave, there is an open box diamond brand that Asays used before they started using the flying A.

We tried to take a family selfie when we got in, but our attempts were no good! Once we were all inside, we looked all around and walked to the end of the cave. They boys loved looking at the crystals and neat rocks inside!
This picture of Landon cracks me up!

Inside the cave!
Here are some of our cool findings inside the cave:

a wall full of crystals

A large chunk of crystal one of the boys found.

Crystals hanging from the cave roof!

A crystal that looked like it had fallen from the top of the cave.

After we explored as far back as we wanted to, we worked out way back out of the cave. We sat around at the top for a bit to cool down...it was pretty warm inside the cave and we were all a little sweaty!

Travis waiting for us to catch up on our walk back to the car.

At the end of our adventure. Carson only had a long sleeve shirt and was super hot, so he decided to ditch his shirt for the walk back to the car.

Eventful horse ride.

Last weekend, the boys got to help grandpa Asay move a few cows around...and it sounds like it was an eventful afternoon. My mother in law, and two of my sister in laws and I all went to Billings for a girl's day of shopping, while the boys stayed behind with the kids. Part way through the ride, Carson's horse started to buck for no apparent reason. Carson was just about to bail off when Christian saw him and told him to hang on tight. He didn't end up getting bucked off, but he was pretty shook up (and sore for a few days). As Carson and Christian were riding up a hill, they came across Travis lying on the ground. Christian said he thought for sure he had broken something by the way he was laying on the ground. Travis says he got bucked off but Christian thinks he got knocked off by a tree branch. So, two out of the three boys were in tears for a short amount of time, but still got back on and rode the rest of the time. What's funny is that Christian never said anything about any of it until I got home that night and the boys told me! I keep threatening to make them ride with helmets!
I love, love, love this picture! Landon loves animals of all kinds!

February Happenings

February has been a drag! We haven't been up to much. It's actually been quite warm (40's and 50's) for this time of year, but cloudy and WINDY! Here are a few things we have done this far this month.
Carson has been studying the solar system. They picked planets and have been researching them. One of the things they had to do also was either create a solor system model or a model of their planet. Carson decided to do the whole solar system with an emphasis on his planed: Neptune. Today, we got to go and listen as they presented their power point presentations on their planets. He did a real good job. I am continually amazed at how much they know and how tech savvy they are. They created their power points on their ipads and were great!

Grandpa Asay has had lots of new baby animals down at the farm. We went out one Saturday to see the new bunnies, along with the baby goats, lambs and calves.
Checking out the new bunnies. They weren't so sure about the white one with red eyes.

The baby goats were all super friendly and loved the boys!

We celebrated Valentine's Day. We had some cousins over to decorate cookies one morning and played.

Christian and the boys sent me these flowers.

Saturday night (since Valentine's day was on a Sunday and we always do dinner at grandma Asay's house), Carson and helped me do an impromptu Valentine's dinner for everyone else. He and I served everyone and we ate with candlelight.

For Valentine's day, I decorated their doors using streamers and the hearts we wrote nice things on about each other for FHE, along with a candy gram and balloon.

Last night was our Blue and Gold Banquet for cub scouts. We had a multi cultural theme and asked people that had served foreign missions if we could borrow stuff to decorate the tables with. We had things from all across the world. The families each brought a main dish from another country. It was fun to see all the different dishes! Carson was awarded 3 awards also. I am happy to have this blue and gold in the books and not to have to worry about another one until next year!
