Because it was such a nice day yesterday (like 67 degrees!), we decided to take a walk and hike up to the Kane caves. We have been talking about doing it for a while now, but have never done it. Actually, we were going to do it last weekend while my sister was here, but it was super windy and Travis didn't feel real great. The boys each packed a backpack (Carson and Travis both got camel packs last year for their birthdays and have been dying to get to use them) with flash lights, shovels, sweatshirts and water. We got the parking site around 11:30 and followed the railroad tracks to the caves. We walked around a mile on the tracks and had fun finding all sorts of old railroad parts and Christian found a spot he would like to try fishing at.

| Along our walk, we looked for a cement culvert that Christian knew had some of his uncle's names carved in it. We found it and were able to identify quite a few names of people we knew. |
Once we got to the spot, we had to hike up the side of the mountain to get to the cave.

| The entrance to the cave. It's definitely a small opening that you pretty much have to lay on your back and slide into. Landon was pretty worried about going in, but once we got inside, he LOVED it! |
| As your entering the cave, there is an open box diamond brand that Asays used before they started using the flying A. |
We tried to take a family selfie when we got in, but our attempts were no good! Once we were all inside, we looked all around and walked to the end of the cave. They boys loved looking at the crystals and neat rocks inside!

| This picture of Landon cracks me up! |

Here are some of our cool findings inside the cave:
| a wall full of crystals |
| A large chunk of crystal one of the boys found. |
| Crystals hanging from the cave roof! |
| One of Carson's finds. |
| Landon exploring. |
| Travis exploring around. |
| The boys checking out the cave walls. |
| A crystal that looked like it had fallen from the top of the cave. |

| Landon getting ready to head out of the cave. |
After we explored as far back as we wanted to, we worked out way back out of the cave. We sat around at the top for a bit to cool down...it was pretty warm inside the cave and we were all a little sweaty!

| At the end of our adventure. Carson only had a long sleeve shirt and was super hot, so he decided to ditch his shirt for the walk back to the car. |
Such fun adventures. I think sliding into the cave would have made me uneasy too!
ReplyDeleteHahaha Landon's face! I'm sad I missed out. It looks awesome!
