Busy weekend!

This last weekend was sure a busy one. We spent all of Friday in Cody watching Travis play baseball with the Colt traveling team. They won both of their games that day, beating Cody and Sheridan. Both games we came from behind to win!

Satuday was crazy. Christian, Carson and Landon left in the morning to head out to Grandpa Asay's house to help brand and bleed cows.
Landon, Stetson and Carson helping out.
Travis and I left at the same time to head to Cowley for Cub Scout Day camp. Travis wasn't very happy to have to go (he would have rathered been playing baseball), but I had to be there as a leader, so I made him go. His mood got better once he found another friend from Cowley to hang out with him and his other friend and they got into their activities. He ended up having a great time and really enjoyed it. His favorite station was the giant water balloon sling shot. They also got to shoot bb guns, sling shots, bow and arrows, play water balloon volleyball, build boats and race them, identify fish, and try to sind plastic boats with marbles.
With his friends Sam and Joaquin.

At this station, the boys had to see how many marbles they could drop into their boat before it sank. They couldn't touch the edge of the pool or go below the top of the pool to drop them. Travis rocked their station and won the competition twice. His best was 8 marbles, but he ran out of marbles before it actually sank.

This was Travis's favorite station. Their team took second and were entered into a drawing for one of the 5 sling shots. He was stoked to find out that he had won one of the sling shots!

Travis and I left a little early from day camp so that he could make it to Cody in time to play with the Colts in the championship game. Christian left branding early to come and rode up with grandma and grandpa Foulger to watch. They played against Cody and beat them 14-4 (the game got done early because of a run mercy rule).
It rained the entire Championship game...hard. But we stuck it out under the umbrella.

Colts!

The team stayed for a bit to cheer on the older boys, who also took first.

Sunday, we visited both of our dads to celebrate father's day with them. We are so blessed to have great father's in our lives!

What we've been up to...

Our life, lately, has been overrun by baseball. We usually have at least 4 games a week between Travis and Landon, and if there's no game, there's practice. Travis was asked to play with the traveling team last weekend for Lovell's School's Out tournament. We hadn't signed him up to play with the team because we thought we were going to have conflicts during each of the tournaments. The School's Out tournament was Friday and Saturday. Travis was wrestling camp both mornings for a couple of hours and then spend the rest of both days playing baseball. Their team ended up taking first...the first time a Lovell team has done that (the majors team also took first). He got to play second, outfield, first (which he found he really likes...and he did an excellent job at it) and pitch. Their next tournament is in Cody this weekend, and the coach asked if he could play with them again, so he will play in all the games Friday and as many as he can on Saturday (we have to go to cub scout day camp).
Trying to jump over the ball to avoid getting hit, but it got his feet so he got to take his base.
Playing first,
Safe!

Landon is doing his 2nd year of coach pitch baseball and rocking it!

The same weekend as the baseball tournament was wrestling camp. All three boys got to attend this year. Travis and Landon went from 8-10 and Carson went from 10-4 both days. Friday, they had Olympic gold medalist, Rulon Gardner come and instruct them and Saturday, Rad Martinez, a previous UW wrestler and now MMA fighter, was the instructor. They liked Saturday more, even though it was a harder day. It sounds like they learned some good things.
The boys watching some instruction.
Travis trying out a move they learned.
Landon's turn.

Our ward decided to hold it's own mini "day camp" since most of our boys weren't going to be able to attend the big one. We went out to Bob Croft's house where they were taught how to start fires and cooked their foil dinners. We the lead them on a 3 mile hike, ate lunch and then the boys got to fish, which was definitely the highlight of the day! They could have fished out there for hours. All the boys were able to catch at least one fish while they were there. Carson and one of his friends stayed back while we hiked to help with the fire and they got to fish too. Carson caught a total of 21 fish while we were there! They were mostly little guys, but they had a blast catching them!
Our group before we left for hiking!
Landon was the fisherman of the day. He caught the biggest one! The one in the left was his first one, and the one on the right was the biggest one! Travis used his fishing scale to weigh it and it was .88 pounds!

There were lots of lily pads and the flowers were so pretty!

Carson and one of his catches. He caught a big one like Landon, but it wasn't quite as big.

Roasting 'mallows.

The boys after a great day!

Landon is in the last couple of days of swimming lessons. He's done really well and has a couple of friends in his class, making it fun for him!

We helped clean up grandpa and grandma Asay's yard one weekend. They installed a giant swing that the kids just love. They had Landon try to climb up the rope before they attached the swing to it.

Earlier last week, we were finally able to plant our garden. About a week later, it was quite cold and we ended up getting frost one night. It looks as though we lost a couple of tomato plants that we will have to replace.

Travis, my little lover or growing things, planted his own crop of corn. He measured out the rows and seed depth so that everything would be just right. I sure love his passion for work and growing things. He makes sure to water it and checks on the progress every day. I sure hope he gets at lest a couple of ears to eat!

Baseball pics

The boys got their baseball pics back the other day and I love them! I thought they turned out so good this year! They had different people take them and they did an amazing job!!

Mildred Stahle Asay

This Saturday, we celebrated the life of Christian's grandma, Mildred Asay. She had passed away the Saturday before, two weeks before turning 103. She was a beautiful lady that exemplified Christlike love. She was an amazing cook (known for her pies and caramels), loved holding babies and sewed each of them a blanket. She was always serving others and kind to everyone. She will surely be missed!

Her obituary:

Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Mildred Stahle Asay passed away peacefully on May 25, 2019 in Provo, Utah at the age of 102.

Mildred was born in Parley's Park, Utah on June 13, 1916 to George J. Stahle and Bertha Hollenweger Stahle. The fourth of seven children, she was raised on a dairy farm and went to school in a two-room schoolhouse. Mildred’s best childhood memories were of gathering around the piano with her family and of listening to her mother sing and yodel.

Mildred graduated from Utah State University in 1939. She taught home economics and other subjects in Nevada and Utah. Her training in home economics started a lifelong interest and study of health and nutrition.

She met O. Harris Asay while visiting her sister Carmen McArthur in Lovell, Wyoming. After writing letters for months, they married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 3, 1942.
Mildred and Harris worked hard, built a successful farm and raised nine children in Lovell. Mildred was known as a wonderful cook. She had a lot of practice, cooking over the years for her children, hired farm workers and many visitors. Everyone loved to sit at her table and eat her pies, fresh-from-her-garden dishes and her famous caramels.
Mildred served faithfully in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints all of her life, holding many callings and influencing others with the strength of her testimony. She and Harris served a full-time mission in Puerto Rico.
Mildred was active in community service, including volunteering for 4-H and at election polling places. She was involved with the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and championed efforts at her independent living residence to provide blankets to the needy.
She had many talents. Mildred was well known for her beautiful penmanship and was asked to inscribe certificates for many organizations. She enjoyed painting, gardening, sewing, reading scriptures, holding babies and eating ice cream.
Mildred was hard working, faithful and selfless. She possessed physical strength but her strength of character was unmatched.
Mildred is survived by her children Clark (Christy) Asay, Cheryl (Max) Esplin, Karin (Fen) Simmons, Bruce (Diane) Asay, Stanley (Jan) Asay, Layne (Shelley) Asay, Gaylen Asay, Sylvia (Randall) Barney, and Eric (Vicki) Asay. She has been a great example to 37 grandchildren and 92 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband O. Harris Asay.
A service will take place June 1st at 10:00 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Lovell, Wyoming.

The program at the funeral:

The oldest grandsons of each family were asked to be pallbearers.

Grandpa Asay and all but two of his siblings. The other two had already headed back to the church.

After the cemetary, we all came back to the church for lunch and to catch up. It was fun to sit an visit with Christian's extended family. We don't see them very much, so it was fun to meet some of them and catch up with others.

Mildred was known for her fancy handwriting. She was often asked to write on certificates for people in the community. On each table was a little basket full of caramels made with her recipe, Jordan almonds (she sent a box of caramels and Jordan almonds to each child every Christmas), and a little tag that displayed her handwriting.
The Asay grandkids. There were only a few missing.
Grandpa Asay and his siblings:
Clark, Stan, Layne, Cheryl, Sylvia, Karen, Eric, Bruce and Gaylen.

After the services, we went home and changed and then made our way out to grandpa and grandma Asay's house to spend the rest of the day with family. Most had left, but we took an adventure with Bruce, Karen and Sylvia's families up to Sheep Mountain to find fossils.

We had a blast finding squid heads, devil's toenails, and the stacked stars. That evening, we had dinner and hung out enjoying being together as family. I am sure thankful for our knowledge of eternal families and that I can be with them forever!
