March Up date!

Our lives have been pretty boring this month, but here is a little bit of what has been going on.

The second trimester ended and they held parent/teacher conferences for this first time in the Spring this year. Carson was asked to attend his with us. He got to show us his work and explain some of the work they do in their classroom. Both teachers only had good things to say about both boys. They are continuing to do well! In between our two conferences, we spotted both boy's names on the bucket filler board. I'm glad to know that not only are they doing well with their school work, they are also kind and helpful to others.
One of the things Landon wanted to do while we were in Hawaii was eat a coconut. We tried twice to get him a green one (Christian says they are the best). The first time, the guy said it was time to go home when he found out that Christian wanted him to cut it open so we could eat the jello-y meat inside. The second time, we spotted one on the side of the road at a fruit stand and stopped. This time, they wanted to charge us like $15 for one. So, we didn't end up getting a coconut for Landon. One time when we were at the grocery store, Landon spotted one and asked if we could get one. After a couple trips to the store and him asking every time, we finally picked one up (even though it was a brown hairy one and not a green one). For family home evening one night, we opened it up. Landon was so excited to finally get to try his coconut. They all sampled the coconut water and were not super impressed by it. They did, however, like the meat inside. Landon even cut his into tiny pieces and put it on top of the brownie he had for dessert.

We celebrated Pi day (March 14th) by making chicken pot pie for dinner (burnt crust included) and homemade lemon meringue pie for dessert. It was my first time making the filling from scratch and it was delicious!

On St. Patrick's Day, Christian took Carson on a campout with the scouts up by Berry's Landing. It was a really nice weekend  for a little camp out and it sounds like they had a good time.

Sitting around the campfire.

Before Carson left, the thing he said he was most excited for was camping breakfast.

The boys cleaned out all the camp fire pits as a service project the next morning.

One of their leader's rules is that they have to clean up after themselves and leave the area better than when they came. He sat them down and told them he would give them so long to clean up and when they were done, he would go around and do a check and for every piece of garbage he found, they would have to do 10 push ups. The boys cleaned for a while and said they were done. Their leader gave them 5 more minutes to pick up anything else. At the end of the 5 minutes, their leader, Christian and the Bishop did a sweep of the area to see how many push ups they were going to be doing. Ends up...they had to 210 push ups (and should have done more). I think the boys learned their lesson and will do a better job next time!

Cleaning up the area.

Push up time!

After clean up, the boys did a little exploring and decided they wanted to see how many scouts they could fin into a bear box (where you store food from bears). Ends up you can fit 7 scouts in a bear box.

The hiked up to Hillsboro, a little ghost town. They explored in all the old buildings.

When I asked Carson how it was, he said it was fun except he didn't sleep at all because there was an owl hooting all night that kept him up. He must have not slept at all because he fell asleep on the couch that afternoon which he NEVER does!

We had a week of really nice Spring weather, so Landon and I packed up a lunch and headed to the church parking lot so he could practice riding his bike without training wheels. He's known how to for a while, but we only have gravel at our house and he never wanted to keep practicing there. It took him no time to gain all the confidence he needed. Now, every time he gets a chance, he's on his bike zooming around the neighborhood.

Since Carson and Christian were gone on St. Patrick's Day, we had our special dinner a few days late (which is why no one is in green). It was Travis's turn to help me plan and prepare our St. Patrick's day dinner. We fixed corned beef and cabbage with potatoes and carrots, green jello, and rainbow fruit kabobs complete with Irish music!
My little helper. The boys love taking turns in helping with our special dinners. They think it's so fun to be helping and have it be a surprise for everyone else.

Christian ended up being late for our dinner because he was helping a family load some stuff and a trailer.

Landon had a big week this week. Monday night was Kindergarten orientation. They held an informational meeting at the beginning and then split the kids and their parents into groups to take a tour of the school and where their classrooms will be next year. Wednesday, he had a Kindergarten screening. He's so ready and excited to go to Kindergarten. My heart breaks a little each time I think about my baby going off the school next year. I'm sure going to miss having my little buddy around all the time. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with myself!
Looking at the book he got from the teacher that screened him.

  1. That is such a good idea to rotate a special helper!
I think I would have died trying to do 210 push-ups!! Great learning moment.
